PORTLAND –
Courtney VanBrocklin got her senior campaign off to a good start Friday night with 13 points in a rout of George Fox, 55-35, at the Peter W. Stott Center in Portland State's home opener.
VanBrocklin led the Vikings with her 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting while going 2-for-2 from the line. She added three rebounds and three assists.
Portland State dominated in the paint by outrebounding George Fox 51-to-37 including 19-to-10 on the offensive boards. Junior transfer
Angela Misa was a force down low pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. The Vikings took advantage of their boards scoring 32 points in the paint to the Bruins 14.

Kate Lanz, the Big Sky's Top Newcomer from a year ago, recorded eight points (4-for-11) and pulled down nine boards.
Portland State (1-0 overall) held a six-point advantage midway through the first half at 15-9. George Fox pulled it to within four, but that was as close as the Bruins would get as the Vikings extended their lead to 13 points at the break. VanBrocklin scored 11 of her 13 points for the game in the first.
The Vikings forced seven turnovers and outscored the Bruins 11-to-1 in points off turnovers in the first half alone.
Portland State came out in the second half and extended its lead to 18 points on a
Karley Lampman three-pointer at 40-22 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the game. Lampman ended the game with eight points including a pair from behind the arc.
Lariel Powell gave the Vikings their largest lead, 26 points, at 52-26 with just under the six minute mark. George Fox ended the game on a 9-3 run but the Vikings took the game by 20 points at 55-35.
Mikaela Rivard tallied six points and six boards in the game while
Keaton McFadden added five points and five boards.
The Vikings now head to Eugene, Ore. to take on the University of Oregon next Thursday, Nov. 15 in a 7 p.m. game at Matthew Knight Arena.
