Former Portland State basketball player Chehales Tapscott was selected in the fourth round of the NBA's Developmental League draft by the Maine Red Claws on Friday. Tapscott, a 6-6, 225-pound forward from Hillsboro's Century High School, starred for the Vikings for two seasons (2010-12).
Tapscott led the Vikings and the Big Sky Conference in rebounding (9.3) and blocked shots (43) as a senior, while scoring 14.1 points per game and shooting 53% from the field. He earned first team All-Big Sky Conference honors in 2011-12.
Tapscott follows in the footsteps of another Viking from the Portland area. Former PSU star Ime Udoka, from Jefferson High School, played in the NBA D-League before completing an eight-year career in the NBA. Udoka is now an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs.
The Red Claws are an official Developmental League team of the Boston Celtics.Â
