Four Viking Golfers Earn Academic All-District Honors for 2025-26

Portland State Women's Golf student-athletes Payten Shimizu, Bayler Brundage, Cynthia Valerie Ong and Maddie Dustin have earned Academic All-District honors for 2025-26 as selected by NCAA College Sports Communicators (CSC).

CSC recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in July.

To earn Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be a significant contributor to their team while maintaining a 3.50 grade point average or higher.

This group of Vikings meets those standards with ease. All starters on the golf team, Shimizu, Brundage, Ong and Dustin are part of a golf program that maintains a 3.86 team GPA, which ranks as the highest of all teams at Portland State. They also led the Viking team to a fourth-place finish at the Big Sky Conference Championship in April - the best by a Viking team in five seasons - and the third-best team scoring average in school history.

Senior Payten Shimizu, from Wailuku, HI, is a three-time Academic All-District selection and will be a four-time Academic All-Big Sky performer when that team is released later this summer. A Computer Science major, Shimizu had a career-best 76.83 scoring average this season.

Senior Bayler Brundage, from West Linn (OR) High School, is another three-time Academic All-District selection and four-time Academic All-Big Sky performer. A Psychology major, Brundage had a 77.70 scoring average – also a career best – this season.

Ong is a junior and comes from Jakarta, Indonesia. A Business Administration: Marketing major, she led the team in scoring for the second straight year with a 74.81 average. Ong earns Academic All-District for the second time and will be a three-time Academic All-Big Sky choice.

Dustin is a sophomore from Salem, and she had a big impact on the program this season. A Criminal Justice major, Dustin ranked third on the team in scoring with a 76.18 scoring average. She, too, will be an Academic All-Big Sky Conference honoree.

The honors for Portland State Women's Golf continue a lengthy run of academic success. The Vikings were a Big Sky Conference Women's Golf Team Champion for GPA in 2022-23 (3.88), had a 3.82 GPA in 2023-24, a 3.89 team GPA in 2024-25, and 3.86 this year.
