Vikings Fall to BYU, 6-1

Box Score EUGENE, Ore. - The Portland State men's tennis team secured the doubles point on Friday but couldn't overcome Brigham Young in singles play, falling 6-1 to the Cougars in a neutral-site matchup at the Student Tennis Center.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 1-3 on the season while the Cougars jumped to 2-0 overall.

The Vikings impressed in doubles play, winning two of three matches to secure the opening point. Luca Prino and Hubert Theriault earned a hard-fought 7-5 win on the top court over Otto Schreiner and Hardy Owen, while Hayden Elliott and Edoardo Crvanzola edged out Redd Owen and Alex Edmonston in a tiebreak on court three, 7-6.

BYU responded with six straight-set wins in singles play to claim the dual victory, 6-1.

The Vikings return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 1, against Oregon at 5:00 p.m. at the Student Tennis Center.
