PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland State men's track & field program failed to comply with NCAA guidelines regarding minimum participation during the 2023 season. As a result,
Jordan MacIntosh, who finished the outdoor regular season ranked eighth in the NCAA West Region in the men's steeplechase, will be unable to compete at this weekend's NCAA West Prelims in Sacramento, Calif.
Â
The NCAA requires all track & field teams to have at least 14 athletes compete at eight meets over the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. The Portland State men's team failed to meet this requirement in 2023, resulting in ineligibility for all Portland State male athletes at the NCAA West Prelims and NCAA Outdoor Championships. PSU Athletics filed for a waiver and an appeal with the NCAA to allow for Macintosh's participation, but was denied both times.
Â
The Portland State women's team met season participation requirements and three runners have qualified – all in the steeplechase – for this week's NCAA West Prelims. Those three athletes are
Alex Barbour,
Tatum Miller and
Bára Stýblová, who will run in the women's steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 27.
