PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State men's tennis team will close out its home slate on Wednesday, March 15 with a non-conference matchup against North Dakota at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center (12 p.m.). The Vikings will finish the week at Oregon on Saturday, March 18 (5 p.m.).
After losing its last four matches, PSU enters Wednesday at 5-8 overall and 1-3 in Big Sky action. Riding a four-match win streak, the Fighting Hawks are 14-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Oregon (8-5) will take on Texas Tech and BYU before hosting the Vikings on Saturday.
Viking junior transfer Jan Semerak leads the team with a 7-6 singles record. The Czech Republic native holds a 2-2 record against conference opponents and has won six of his last seven matches at the No. 2 position. Andrea Brignacca is coming off his second conference win at the No. 1 spot, beating Weber State's Sebastian Buxman 7-5, 6-4 last Saturday. Having played just two singles matches this season, freshman Simon Kuszynski has stepped up for the Vikings in his last two outings, winning back-to-back three-set matches at the No. 6 spot, improving to 2-2 on the year.
The Vikings are 16-17 in doubles action. Brignacca and Luka Jovanovic led the way with a 6-6 record.
