De Vries and
Tommy Hsu gave Portland State a chance at the doubles point when they defeated Jordan Coutinho and Arthur Serafim 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, but due to a PSU forfeit at No. 3 and a Wildcat win at No. 1, Weber State headed into singles play with a 1-0 lead.
Weber State claimed five more points in singles action, including a forfeit point at No. 6. Both De Vries and
Oliver Richards pushed their opponents to a third set, but only De Vries could pull off a win. The freshman pulled off a gutsy 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 win over Bo-Han Li at No.4, claiming the only point of the day for PSU. Â
Portland State will return to action in Arizona next weekend. They'll begin the road trip at Paradise Valley Community College on Friday, April 15 before taking on Northern Arizona on Saturday, April 16.
