Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Portland State men's tennis dropped the first match of its road trip to Arizona, 4-3, to Paradise Valley Community College on Friday.
The loss dropped the Vikings to 3-12 overall, while the Puma's improved to 5-3 on the year.
Portland State played shorthanded once again, sporting a roster of just four players in its weekend opener.
The Vikings gave Paradise Valley a run for their money despite foregoing one doubles match, and two singles matches.
PSU cruised to a pair of doubles wins to secure the opening point.
Nils Plutat and
Oliver Richards earned a 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot, while
Sam De Vries and
Tommy Hsu blanked their Puma opponents at flight two, 6-0.
Otto Holtari and De Vries both picked up wins for the Vikings in singles action. Holtari defeated Franco Toscano at the four spot (6-3, 6-4), while De Vries clinched his match at flight three (6-1, 7-5). The Pumas picked up wins at the top two spots to secure the win, 4-3.
The Vikings will take on Northern Arizona on Saturday at 10 a.m.
