Box Score BEAVERTON, Ore. - The Portland State men's tennis team dropped its Big Sky opener on Sunday, falling to Montana 7-0 at the Tualatin Hills Babette Horenstein Tennis Center.
The Vikings moved to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play while the Grizzlies improved to 9-0 on the year and 1-0 in Big Sky action.
Montana secured a pair of doubles wins to start the day. The Grizzlies Ed Pudney and Oisin Shaffrey defeated Oliver Richards and Nils Plutat 6-3 at No. 1, while Otto Holtari and Andrew Vu dropped a 6-1 decision on court three.Â
Richards highlighted the Vikings in singles action, pushing Lawerence Sciglitano to a tiebreaker at the No. 3 spot but ultimately fell 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10). Putting up a fight at the No. 2 position was Hsu, who suffered a 6-4, 6-3 defeat while Plutat fell in his match on court one, 6-3, 6-2.Â
PSU will return to action next weekend in California. The Vikings will take on Sacramento State on Friday (March 4) and UC Davis on Saturday (March 5).Â
