Hernandez Plays Well, Garcia Rosette Makes An Ace On Day One In Fresno

Fresno, CA – Senior Valerie Hernandez had the best day, but freshman Mariana Garcia Rosette had the highlight moment of the day for Portland State, making a hole in one in the opening round of the Fresno State Classic.
 
Hernandez posted a two-under par 70 in Monday's opening round at Copper River Country Club, then followed with a 77 in the afternoon. Her three-over par total of 147 has her tied for 22nd among 84 players. Garcia Rosette had a hole-in-one in her morning round, jarring her tee shot on the 142-yard second hole.
 
The Vikings finished the day at 312-305=617 and are in 15th place among 16 teams. Stanford leads the event with a brilliant eight-under par 282-286=568.
 
Hernandez' 70 marked the 20th time in her career at PSU that she has posted a sub-par round at PSU (among 123 total). She ranks second behind A Ram Choi (21) in Viking history.
 
Jasmine Cabajar had a good day, shooting 77-72=149 over the two rounds. The senior is tied for 30th on the individual leaderboard.
 
Also playing for the Vikings were redshirt freshman Katie Harris (86-76=162, t74), junior McKenna Maser (83-80=163, t77) and Garcia Rosette (82-83=165, 82).
