NEWBERG, Ore. – The Portland State men's tennis team opened up its fall season at the PNW Invitational this weekend. The Vikings were one of five teams to compete in the three-day event which began on Friday, October 1
st and concluded on Sunday, October 3
rd.

Despite losing his opening match, Portland State's
Nils Plutat highlighted the Vikings in flight A singles. Plutat defeated Pacific's Ryan Miyagawa 6-4, 7-6 (3) on his way to the consolation final before falling in his final singles match of the weekend 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 to Pacific's Mason Tran.

Sophomore
Oliver Richards led the Vikings in flight B singles. After picking up a pair of victories to open the tournament, he met fellow Viking
Oliver Fernandez in the semifinal round on Saturday. Richards secured the 6-4, 6-2 win over his teammate before eventually falling in the flight B Championship, 6-4, 6-0.

Plutat and doubles partner
Tommy Hsu earned the only doubles victory of the weekend for the Vikings in flight A doubles. The pair defeated Murata/Hu from Pacific en route to the quarterfinal round. The duo closed out doubles play by falling to Idaho's Bascon/Duron 6-2.

The Vikings will return to action at the University of Oregon Invitational on October 12-14 in Eugene.
