POCATELLO, Idaho — Playing a line up from their usual positions without usual No. 1 Siena Peri in singles, the Portland State women's tennis team fell 6-1 to Idaho State Thursday at the Tennis Courts at Reed Gym.
 
The Vikings (0-7, 0-5 Big Sky) still played a number of tight matches against the Bengals (3-2, 2-0 Big Sky), even without Peri and Brianna Thompson in their lineup.
 
Senior Tracy Dong stepped into line one for the Vikings in singles, and played a couple of tight sets against Idaho State's Hristina Cvetkovic, but fell 6-4, 7-5.
 
Fellow senior Sabina-Elena Preda played an even tighter match at line three, as she lost a first-set tiebreaker to Idaho State's Louise-Mare Botes, 7-3, and then dropped the second set, 7-5.
 
Sophomore Taylor Rees also lost the first set of her match against Idaho State's Megan Poe in a tiebreaker at line five, 7-2, and went on to lose the second set, 6-2.
 
Freshman Sally Partington provided a bright spot for the Vikings at line four, as she beat Idaho State's Melissa Coburn 6-4, 6-3. Partington has now won three of her last four matches, and leads the Vikings with three singles win this season.
 
The Vikings also nearly pulled out a win at line five, as Peri and Dong led Idaho State's Huibre-Mare Botes and Louise-Mare Botes 5-2 when the match was called as the Bengals clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at line three.
 
The Vikings will continue on the road Saturday, as they face Weber State Saturday at 12 p.m. (MT) in Ogden, Utah.
 
Match Notes: The Vikings fell to 7-9 all-time against the Bengals with Thursday's loss…The Bengals snapped a four-match losing streak to the Vikings with their win Thursday…The Vikings and Weber State will both head into Saturday's match 0-7 on the season.
