SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Portland State women's tennis team (7-8, 3-5 Big Sky) dropped a must-win match on the road Saturday, falling 5-2 to Sacramento State (17-5, 7-1 Big Sky) at the Sacramento State Tennis Complex.
The Hornets secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, despite a 6-4 victory from Hana Abdelhamid and Marta Giglio at the top spot.
In singles, the Vikings picked up two points, highlighted by a straight-set win from Giglio at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2. Abdelhamid added Portland State's second point by default at No. 4.
Sacramento State claimed the remaining four singles matches to seal the victory, including straight-set wins at Nos. 3, 5 and 6, along with a win by retirement at the top spot.
The loss dropped the Vikings out of the top six in the conference, meaning they will not appear in next week's Big Sky Tournament.
