Vikings Earn First-Ever Road Win Over Weber State

OGDEN, Utah – The Portland State women's tennis team picked up a historic road win Friday, defeating Weber State 4-3 at the Edman Tennis Courts. With the victory, the Vikings secured their first win over the Wildcats on the road in program history.

The Vikings (7-6, 3-3 Big Sky) rolled through doubles play, taking all three matches from the WIldcats (2-13, 0-5).  Anjola Ige and Scarlett Perkins opened with a 6-3 victory on court three followed by a 6-2 win from Marta Giglio and Hana Abdelhamid at No. 1. Nene Uemura and Kasumi Hirayama picked up their third conference win as a duo, completing the sweep with a 6-4 win at line two.

Hirayama was first off the court in singles, delivering a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 to extend Portland State's lead to 2-0. Weber State responded with wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles to even the match.

Scarlett Perkins pushed the Vikings back in front with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, beating Jessica Hill 6-4, 7-6 (4).

After the Wildcats tied things once again with a three-set win at No. 6, the match came down to the final court at No. 4 singles. Hana Abdelhamid delivered the clincher, rallying after dropping the first set to secure a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory and seal the 4-3 win for the Vikings.

The win keeps Portland State in the mix for a Big Sky Tournament berth as the Vikings continue their final stretch of the regular season.

Portland State will return to action Sunday, April 12 at Idaho State (10:00am).
