THE OPENING TIP
The fine line between winning and losing in the Big Sky Conference continues to be evident as the Portland State Vikings approach the home stretch of the regular season. On Thursday night, for the fourth time in six games, the Vikings went to overtime. And for the fourth time, they took a heartbreaking loss, 92-90, to Montana State.

Now Portland State (12-12, 5-8) must regroup for a Saturday evening contest at Montana, hoping to reverse their recent fortunes as the Big Sky Conference Tournament approaches. On Jan. 19, the Vikings were riding high following an 88-79 win over the Grizzlies in Portland. PSU was 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the Big Sky. Since that time, the Vikings have lost six of seven games, four in overtime, four on the road, and five by six points or less. Its been a tough tonic to take. However, PSU certainly has good basketball in its DNA. Prior to the recent skid, the Vikings had won eight of 10 games, including three on the road.

The Vikings can also take solace in the fact that they trailed by 11 points at MSU with 3:48 to play but rallied back to get the game to overtime. SR F De'Sean Parsons scored 11 points down the stretch, including a tying free throw with 0.2 seconds on the clock to send the game to overtime. MSU guard Tyler Hall broke the Vikings hearts with a 12-foot jumper in the lane with 3.9 seconds left in OT for the decider.

Montana (13-14, 8-6) also understands the fine line for Big Sky success. The Griz took a 67-65 home loss on Thursday to Sacramento State. Brandon Gfeller had a winning three-point attempt at the buzzer that bounced off the rim.

The Grizzlies are 7-5 at home this season, while the Vikings bring in a 4-9 road record. PSU will be trying to win in Missoula for the first time since 2008.

One thing is certain: the Vikings will try to get the job done in regulation. PSU has now played a school-record five overtime games and eight overtime periods this season. And they are 0-5 in OT.

The game will be live streamed at www.GoViks.com/Live. Live stats are available at www.ViksLive.com. Tip-off is 6:05 p.m. PT

COMING UP
PSU's final home weekend is Feb. 23-25 when the Vikings play Southern Utah (4-22/2-11) and Northern Arizona (7-19/4-9). The regular season concludes with a trip to Northern Colorado (8-16/4-9, Mar. 2) and North Dakota (15-8/10-3, Mar. 4).
