OGDEN, Utah — What a couple of days it's been for Portland State's
Breanne Chilton-Eddy. She scored the game-winning goal in overtime on Senior Day against Weber State that has since made it onto ESPN, Fox Sports, USA Today's For the Win and TopDrawerSoccer.com, and now she's been named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career Tuesday.
Â
Chilton-Eddy earned her first career conference weekly honor after scoring her brilliant goal against Weber State. Chilton-Eddy took one touch off a pass from sophomore
Krystal de Ramos on the play, before launching a high-arching shot that dropped just under the crossbar and into the left-side netting of the goal.
Â
The goal, which came in the fourth minute of overtime, gave the Vikings a 2-1 win over the Wildcats, who had scored first in the match on a goal in the seventh minute. Chilton-Eddy's goal completed a comeback for the Vikings in the match, the first time the Vikings had come back after giving up the first goal since a 2-1 win over Northern Arizona on Oct. 13, 2013 – also a match the Vikings won on a golden goal, and also a Senior Day match.
Â
Chilton-Eddy's goal also kept the Vikings' hopes alive of making the Big Sky tournament, as the Vikings moved into a tie for sixth in the conference after picking up the three points against Weber State on Sunday. The Vikings now control their own destiny going into the final match of the regular season, as they will make the Big Sky tournament with a win over Sacramento State on Friday.
Â
Chilton-Eddy and the Vikings will kick off against the Hornets at 1 p.m. (PT) Friday at Hillsboro Stadium.
