Frazier's First-Half Goal Doesn't Hold Up as Utah Tech Comes Back to Beat Vikings, 2-1

For the first time this season, the first team to score in a Portland State women's soccer game did not win. Despite getting on the board first, the Vikings fell to Utah Tech 2-1 in their first Big Sky Conference game of the season. 

The game was relatively even for the first half, with both teams recording six shots. Elle Frazier, off an assist from Wynn Farrell, scored the first goal of the game at 35:12, putting the Vikings up 1-0. Farrell's assist was the first of her career. 

Ten minutes into the second half, at 55:37, Utah Tech managed to sneak the ball past goalkeeper Finley Crabtree. The Trailblazers scored their game-winning goal almost exactly five minutes later at 60:38, after a shot went into the upper right of the netting.

Portland State did not go down without a fight. The Vikings outshot Utah Tech in the second half 8-5, with Frazier leading the team in shots with four for the entire game. Grace Sarabia and Aliayha Saldana both had three shots, but were unable to put it home. 

The Vikings next face Southern Utah in their second game of their road trip on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. PT.
