THE OPENING TIP
The Portland State women's basketball team will begin the season on the road against a pair of Big West Conference schools.
The Vikings open the season Friday, Nov. 13 against the Cal State Fullerton Titans in Fullerton, Calif. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. PT tip. Portland State will then head to Long Beach, Calif. to take on the 49ers of Long Beach State Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Vikings got their first taste of competition last week in an exhibition game against Oregon Tech. The Hustlin' Owls took the game by a score of 81-69.
• Freshman G Michaela Kay scored a game-high 26 points for the Vikings going 8-for-16 from the floor and 4-for-9 from three-point range. She also went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Kay played 38 minutes and recorded a team-high four assists. Kay scored 18 of the Vikings' 29 first-half points.
• Freshman Pia Jurhar and sophomore Cici West each pulled down 10 rebounds. The Vikings only had a player pull down double-digit rebounds three times in 2014-15.

CAL STATE FULLERTON QUICK HITS
• Head Coach Daron Park is in his third year leading the Titans. He is 25-37 overall at Fullerton.
• Cal State Fullerton returns five letterwinners and two starters from a team that went 13-19 overall and 5-11 in Big West play in 2014-15. The Titans added eight newcomers, including three transfers, to this season's roster.
• The Titans went 7-8 at home, 6-9 on the road, and 0-2 in neutral site games in 2014-15.
• The Titans averaged 59.7 points per game while allowing 62.6 points per game (-2.9 scoring margin). They shot .375 from the floor, .313 from three-point range, and .695 from the free-throw line.
• Cal State Fullerton out-rebounded opponents 37.2-to-.34.8 (+2.5 rebounding margin).
• Cal State Fullerton is without its top three scorers from a year ago who averaged 19.4, 12.3, and 9.1 pointer per game.
• Junior G/F Samantha Logan is the teams leading scorer returning from last year. She averaged 5.1 points per game.

VS. CAL STATE FULLERTON: Portland State leads the all-time series 2-1. The Vikings took the first two meetings during the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons. The Titans took the last meeting (79-72) in overtime in 2009 at the World Vision Invitational in Eugene, OR.

LONG BEACH STATE QUICK HITS
• Head Coach Jody Wynn heading into her seventh season leading the 49ers. She is 90-99 overall at Long Beach State.
• The 49ers went 22-10 overall and 9-7 to finish fourth in Big West play in 2014-15. They advanced to the WNIT for the third time in program history, and second time in three years. They went 12-4 at home, 9-5 on the road, and 1-1 at a neutral site.
• The 49ers return seven lettewinners, including two starters, and a redshirt from last year's team while adding four newcomers.
• The 49ers averaged 67.4 points per game a year ago while allowing 61.2 (+6.2 scoring margin). They shot .406 as a team while allowing opponents to shoot .391. They shot .309 from three-point range making 5.9 three-pointers per game and shot .655 from the free-throw line.
• Junior G Raven Benton is the team's leading returner. She averaged 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game a year go.
• Junior PG Anna Kim added 9.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

VS. LONG BEACH STATE FULLERTON: Portland State leads the all-time series with Long Beach State, 4-2, dating back to the 1982-83 season. After losing the first game in the series, the Vikings won the next four. The 49ers took the last meeting with a 62-58 win in the Stott Center last season.

TEAM NOTES: Here are some quick-hitters about the Portland State women's basketball team heading into the season:
• Portland State went 4-25 overall and 2-16 in Big Sky conference play en route to a last place finish in the league. It was the Vikings' worst record since the 2004-05 season when they went 3-23 overall and 1-13 in Big Sky Conference play.
• Portland State returns just three letterwinners from the 2014-15 season. The Vikings lost nine letterwinners and all five starters off last year's squad. That includes five of its top six scorers from a year ago.
• Portland State returners have a combined four letters of experience at Portland State. There are a combined seven total letters of NCAA Division I experience on the roster, including transfers and redshirts.
• Portland State adds five incoming freshmen, five transfers, and a pair of redshirts for 2015-16. Three of the five transfers will have to sit out the season due to NCAA Transfer Rules.
• Portland State has five foreign born players on the roster: Courtney West (Sydney, Australia); Pia Jurhar (Vienna, Austria); Te Oramae Solomon (Auckland, New Zealand); Alicia Carline (Fielding, New Zealand); Ashley Torres Negron (Morovis, Puerto Rico)
• Portland State is in its 20th season as a member of the Big Sky Conference and Division I.
• Construction of the new The Viking Pavilion will begin in late fall of 2015. The Pavilion will consist of an upgraded Stott Center facility, including a new arena for Viking basketball, as well as athletic training enhancements, academic upgrades and overall facility enhancements. The Viking Pavilion will more than double the capacity of PSU's home court (to be situated on the east side of the building) to somewhere between 3,000-5,000 seats.
• The 12-team Big Sky Conference has a new post-season set-up and format. The Big Sky will move its conference tournament to a neutral site in Reno, NV. All 12 teams will be part of the tournament for the first time as it takes place at the Reno Events Center.
