THE OPENING TIP
The Portland State Vikings will wrap up their preseason schedule on Monday afternoon when they face Evergreen State College. Tip-off is 2:05 p.m. at the Peter W. Stott Center.

Portland State hopes to complete a home-heavy preseason with a win. The Vikings got off to a 4-1 start, but have lost the last three games to Boise State, Portland and Idaho. Now 4-4, PSU can take a winning record into conference play if they can defeat the NAIA Geoducks at home. PSU has a 4-2 home mark overall.

Evergreen State is 1-8 this season and plays two games this weekend prior to facing the Vikings. The Geoducks play at Corban on Friday and Northwest Christian on Saturday in Cascade Conference contests.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: Portland State leads the series with Evergreen State, 2-0, having won both games in the Stott Center. PSU beat Evergreen, 70-53, on Dec. 8, 2004, and 95-76 on Nov. 20, 2006.

EVERGREEN STATE GEODUCKS: Evergreen is an NAIA member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference located in Olympia, WA. The Geoducks (GOO-ey-ducks) were 2-24 last year, 1-16 in conference play... this season Evergreen is 1-8 overall. The Geoducks have also played three exhibition games against Division I opponents, losing at Utah (128-44), Idaho State (99-62) and Seattle (100-59)... in their nine counting games, senior guard Kyle Calhoun has led the team with a 19.9 scoring average. Calhoun has made 38 three-point field goals and shoots .463 from distance... senior forward Marc Taylor is averaging 12.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game... senior guard KJ Hong averages 9.4 points and has made 20 three-pointers... sophomore guard Frankie Johnson averages 8.7 points and 5.1 assists... the Geoducks make nearly nine three-pointers per game, but they have allowed 87.6 points per contest and are outrebounded by an average of 11.6 per game.

HOME COURT HAPPINESS: With a 4-2 record at home this season, Portland State has improved its non-conference home record to 34-6 at the Stott Center since the start of the 2006-07 season (PSU is 43-19 in Big Sky home games over that span). PSU is 21-6 against Division I schools, and 13-0 against lower division schools in those non-conference games. Among the six losses are San Jose State (2007-08, in overtime), Seattle (2009-10, on a three-pointer at the final buzzer), Portland (2010-11, by 11 points; 2013-14, by 16 points), Oregon State (2012-13, by five points) and Idaho (2013-14, by one point).

GOOD STARTS: New point guard
Tim Douglas is making a big impact for the Vikings this season. He is averaging team-highs of 16.1 points, 4.3 assists and 1.6 steals. Douglas also leads in three-pointers with 16, while shooting .432 from distance.
• Douglas has led the Vikings in scoring in four games and assists in six games.
• He has scored in double figures in all seven games with a season-high 27 against Portland (12/7).
• Douglas was named Big Sky Conference Player of the Week on Dec. 10.
• Douglas ranks fifth in scoring, fourth in assists and second in minutes played in the Big Sky Conference.

DaShaun Wiggins. In his last five games, Wiggins has come off the bench to average 17.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists in just 22 minutes per contest... for the season, Wiggins is second on the team in scoring (14.0), three-pointers (13) and steals (9)... Wiggins is shooting .448 from three-point range.
• Wiggins' had a 21-point, seven-rebound, three-assist, two-steal performance in a win over UC Davis (11/24).
• He set new career-highs with 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals against Idaho (12/14).
• Wiggins has led the team in scoring three times and rebounding twice.

MOORE, MOORE, MOORE: SR F
Aaron Moore is the top returning Viking after leading PSU in scoring and rebounding last season. Despite a slow start to this season due to back issues, Moore has returned to form. For the year, he averages 11.1 points, a team-leading 6.0 rebounds and has a team-best five blocked shots.
• Moore averaged 16.0 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting .543 from the field and .909 at the line in the Vikings' home tournament (Nov. 22-24).
• Moore matched his career-high of 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a win over Loyola (11/22). It was his eighth career double-double.
• He has led the team in rebounding five times.

WINSTON HITTING THE MARK: JR G Andre Winston is averaging 9.7 points on .514 from the field and .871 at the free throw line this season. Those are nice improvements from his numbers last year of 7.0, .391 and .705.

THE BIG CAT IS ON THE PROWL: JR C
Brandon Cataldo has been a "project" player for the Vikings the past two seasons. Now he appears ready to assert himself. The 6-10 Cataldo had eight points (4-5 FG) and seven rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench against Idaho. He is averaging 5.5 points and is second on the team at 4.2 rebounds per game in just 13.7 minutes per night... Cataldo is shooting .588 from the field for his career.
