Box Score BOISE, Idaho – The Portland State women's soccer team (1-5-1) fell to the University of Utah (5-1-1) on Friday afternoon at the Etc./Nike Classic in Boise, Idaho, after the Utes scored two goals in the span of nearly two minutes in the second half. Senior Lainey Hulsizer matched a season-high seven saves in the loss.

Portland State held its own in the first fifteen minutes of the match as sophomore Eryn Brown and the PSU offense generated early chances. As the half wore on Utah began to take control and ended up outshooting the Viks, 10-5, and holding a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

In the second half Utah continued its momentum and broke through in the 82nd minute, as Katie Taylor took a pass from Jenny Hutton and scored from 20 yards out, beating Hulsizer for the first marker of the match. PSU didn't have much time to regroup as Taylor struck again a little more than a minute later, taking a pass from Abby Groth and booting her second goal of the contest from 10-yards out. PSU was unable to mount a late comeback and the Utes held on for the 2-0 victory.

PSU was outshot 19-9 in the match while Utah had a slight edge in corners, 6-5.

“I can't fault the players effort today, they played hard,” assistant coach Melaney Langley said. “With the injuries we have, we felt good about getting other players some key minutes to get us ready for conference play.”

Brown led the team with three shots while freshman Tamia Hasan registered two during the match. Not surprisingly Taylor paced the Utes with six shots while Ashton Hall had four.

Hulsizer made her seventh start of the year, making seven saves in the losing effort. She is now 1-5-1 this season. Meanwhile Lindsey Luke made four saves and improved to 5-1-1.

The Viks will be back in action on Sunday when it plays Nebraska-Omaha at 10 a.m for its final match of the Etc./Nike Classic.
