Charles Odum Named Lou Henson Mid-Major All-American

BOSTON (MA) -- Portland State senior guard Charles Odum was one of 25 players named to the The 2012 Lou Henson Mid-Major All-America team on Tuesday. Rather than assembling a first second, third team and honorable mentions, the All-American list is one team consisting of twenty-five players.

Odum led the Vikings in scoring (19.1) while shooting 53% from the field and 83% at the free throw line. He was a three-time Big Sky Conference Player of the Week, first team All-Big Sky Conference and named to the Big Sky All-Tournament team.

Odum was one of three players from the Big Sky named to the 25-member team. Also included were Damian Lillard of Weber State (who was also named a 3rd team All-American on Tuesday) and Will Cherry of Montana.

The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years. When he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four.

The winner of the 2012 Lou Henson Award will be announced on March 30 in New Orleans, site of the NCAA men's basketball championship. Butler's Matt Howard was the recipient of the 2011 award.
