RENO, Nev. – Junior twins Carlie and
Megan Martin scored one goal each for the Vikings Friday night in Reno, Nev. as the Vikings defeated the Wolf Pack by a score of 2-0 at the Wolf Pack Invitational.
Friday marked the first career goal for
Carlie Martin and is the first time the two have scored in the same game for Portland State.
It was a closely fought match through a scoreless first half before
Megan Martin broke the tie. She received the ball from
Melissa Trammell and then shot the ball from about 17-yards out for her first goal of the season.
Carlie Martin increased the Portland State advantage to 2-0 exactly two minutes and 20 seconds later when she advanced the ball forward from her defender position and blasted a shot from 25-yards out into the upper right corner of the net for her first-career goal.
The Vikings (3-2-0 overall) outshot the Wolf Pack (1-4-0) by a total of 10-to-6. The Vikings were on target all night long with nine of their 10 shots coming on goal.
Portland State looks to increase its current three-match winning streak on Sunday when it takes on Detroit Mercy in its final match of the Wolf Pack Invitational. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. Detroit Mercy played UNLV to a scoreless double-overtime draw in the first match of the Wolf Pack Invitational Friday afternoon.
