SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Portland State women's soccer team fell to San Jose State Sunday afternoon by a score of 1-0 at Spartan Stadium.
The match was fairly close throughout the first half of play. The Vikings (4-6-0 overall) and the Spartans (1-7) were all tied up in a scoreless first half.
San Jose broke through with the lone goal of the game in the 70th minute to take the 1-0 advantage.
“We executed like we thought the game would win itself,” head coach
Laura Schott said following the match. “Unfortunately we realized that it wouldn't after the other team did.”
The Vikings recorded eight shots in the game, five of which came on goal, but they could not find the back of the net for the second consecutive game and the third of the last four.
Megan Martin led the way for the Vikings with three shots, two on goal.
The Vikings have a bye next weekend before heading back to Northern California to take on Sacramento State on Sept. 30 to start conference play.
