Daniela Solis each scored in the first 15 minutes but the Portland State women's soccer team fell to Utah Valley Friday night, in both team's season opener, by a score of 4-2.
“Our loss tonight was disappointing,” Vikings head coach
Laura Schott said following the match. “It's a long season and we should learn a lot from this loss.”
The Vikings (0-1-0 overall) got on the board in just the fourth minute of the match when Trammell beat the Utah Valley keeper Lauren Sack to a loose ball in the box for and drove it in for her first goal of the season.
Trammell is coming off of a junior campaign in which she record 10 points, third on the team, on four goals and two assists.
Solis made her presence known early in her Portland State career when she was scored her first collegiate goal via the header on a ball from senior
Esty Geiger who passed the ball from the right side, giving the Vikings the 2-0 advantage in the 15th minute which is where the game stood as the teams headed to the half.
Both teams ended the match with 12 shots with Portland State tallying 10 of its shots in the second half while Utah Valley recorded eight in the second half.
After going into the break trailing 2-0, Utah State (1-0-0) rallied with four goals in the second half, all within the first 25 minutes of the second half, to take the first game of the season by the score of 4-2.
The Vikings spread the ball around on the attack with nine players recording shots while six players accounted for their shots on goal.
The Vikings will stay in Utah and take on Utah State Sunday afternoon with the match slated to start at 12 p.m. PT.
