GREELEY, Colo. – The Portland state women's soccer team was eliminated from the Big Sky soccer championship Friday afternoon in heartbreaking fashion. After 110 scoreless minutes, the match tuned to penalty kicks where the Vikings fell short, 4-3.

"Losing in the semifinals in penalty kicks, going to seven of them, is certainly a disappointing way to end this season," head coach Laura Schott said following the match. “This season sent us a lot of adversity and our team answered that adversity and did very well.”

The Vikings had several opportunities to put The match away in the second half. The Vikings out-shot the Wildcats 22-to-8 in the match. Amanda Dutra recorded career-high 10 shots in the match which is tied for the most in school history. Four shots were on goal.

The Vikings took a 3-to-2 lead in the shootout but then failed on their next four attempts. The wildcats advanced on a 4-3 shootout win.

"I'd like to thank our seniors for four tremendous years," Schott said. “I would like to thank the rest of the team for a good season and we look forward to getting beyond the semis next year."

The Vikings end their season with an overall record of 8-7-3 and are now 1-6-2 all-time at the Big Sky Tournament.
