CHENEY, Wash.
–  Senior Kala Renard scored her first goal of the season in the 76th minute of the match to give the Vikings the lead and the 1-0 victory Friday afternoon over Eastern Washington. The win also gives Portland State the first win of the “Dam Cup” in the 2011-12 season.

“We had some travel woes to overcome this weekend and today's win was a good start to that,” Portland State head coach Laura Schott said follwing the match. “We haven't won at Eastern Washington in a long time so I'm very proud of our athletes for getting the win.”

Friday's win at Eastern Washington was the first win in Cheney, Wash. for the Vikings since a 1-0 win in 2002.

Renard gave the Vikings the only lead they would need in the 76th minute of the match with her first goal of the season. Renard took a cross from the right side from Melissa Tramell and then shot the ball to the far post past the Washington State keeper Jamie Walker.

Portland State (6-6-0 overall, 2-0-0 Big Sky) came out shooting from the moment the first whistle blew. The Vikings out-shot the Eagles (1-9-0, 0-2-0) by a mark of 11-to-1 in the first half alone and finished the game with 19 shots compared to Eastern Washington's eight. Junior Amanda Dutra led the Vikings in shots for the game with eight.

Lainey Hulsizer picked up her second consecutive win of the season and her first shutout of the season. She played all 90 minutes in goal for the vikings and saved every ball Eastern Washington could throw at her.

With the 1-0 win at Eastern Washington Friday afternoon, Schott picked up her 30th career win as the Portland State women's soccer head coach. The 30 wins puts her alone atop the all-time coaches wins list.

The Vikings now travel to Missoula, Mont. to take on the Montana Grizzlies on Sunday. Montana comes into Sunday's match 1-1 in Big Sky play after falling 1-0 to Sacramento State on Friday.

“Montana has had some great wins this season and played a tough match against Sacramento State today,” Schott said. “Sunday will be another good challenge for us.”
