Viks Second Half Comeback Attempt Not Enough at Idaho; Fall 3-2

MOSCOW, Idaho
- The  Vikings closed their road trip in Moscow, Idaho this afternoon at Guy Wicks Field versus Idaho. After quickly falling 3-0 in the first half, Portland State attempted a comeback but the effort was too late and the Vikings fell, 3-2.

The Vikings gave up scores in the fifth, 32nd and 35th minutes of play. Two goals were scored by Chelsea Small, the Vandals leading scorer, and the other by Chelsie Breen.

Right before the end of the half, junior Kala Renard struck for the Vikings, after she collected a forward pass from senior Frankie Ross. Charging the keeper, Renard tapped a shot over keeper Liz Boyden's head for PSU's first score and her third of 2010.

The goal put the Vikings down 3-1 entering the half. Portland State goalkeeper Rachel Jarvis started the match for the Vikings but did not finish as Lainey Hulsizer played the second half. Hulsizer did not allow a goal and made two saves in net.

In the 72nd minute of play, the Viks decreased their margin to one goal on a cross from Brittany Allen to Ross to make the score 3-2. It was Ross' third goal and Allen's second assist of the season.

The Vikings turned up the heat in the final minutes of the match and Ross put PSU's last shot on goal in the 86th but Boyden made the save to preserve the Vandals lead and Idaho walked away with the victory, improving to 9-3-0.

Portland State (4-6-0) will return to its home confine, Hillsboro Stadium, this Friday for a match against Utah Valley, beginning at noon.
