Renard's Two-Goal Night Lifts Portland State Over UC Riverside, 3-0

RIVERSIDE, Calif.
- Junior Kala Renard scored two goals and Frankie Ross added a goal and an assist in Portland State's 3-0 win at UC Riverside. It was Renard's first multiple-goal match of her career and the Vikings fourth match in their last five with three or more goals.

Junior Amanda Howie put the game's first shot on goal with a header 39 seconds in the contest.  Sophomore Amanda Dutra would take Vikings next shot, missing wide right in the 18th minute.

Starting the match in net for Portland State, senior Rachel Jarvis made two saves in the first 22 minutes of the contest. 22:13 into the match however, sophomore Lainey Hulsizer entered the match to relieve Jarvis.

In the 37th minute of play, the Vikings would break the scoreless silence. Junior Toni Carnovale fired a shot towards the net with Highlander goalkeeper Jessica White making the deflection on Carnovale's shot but not collecting it. With a loose ball on the grass of UCR Stadium, senior Frankie Ross collected the loose ball and put it in the back of the net for the Vikings first goal and her second of the season.

Six minutes later, Renard joined in on the scoring action after a misplay by the UCR defense for her first goal of the season. Though the Vikings led 2-0 at the half, the Highlanders outshot the Viks 7-5 in the match but committed eight fouls to the Vikings seven.

UCR continued to lead the shot count 20 minutes into the second half, 5-1, and tested Hulsizer twice to make the save. Emily Rohde fired PSU's only shot in that same time frame.

Renard scored again in the 82nd minute of the match, straight ahead of White and 16 yards out from the post. Ross was credited with the assist for firing a shot, before Renard's goal.

Hulsizer finished with three saves between the pipes and earned her second-straight shutout win of the season. She has now started her season with 157:47 scoreless minutes, after earning her first start Sept. 12 against Western Oregon. She's now 2-0-0 with eight saves in goal this season.

Portland State will take on San Diego Sunday afternoon at noon. Live stats and video will be available for the match.

Match notes:
Portland State has now scored 12 goals in its last 5 matches and posted three goals in back-to-back contests for the second time this season ...
