Box Score

HILLSBORO, Ore. – For the third time in four matches, the Portland State Vikings scored three goals in one match, this time over the Western Oregon Wolves. The Viks outshot WOU 18-6 in the contest and defeated the Wolves, 3-0. PSU had a shots on goal percentage of .500 (3-6) in this afternoon's match.

Junior Melissa Trammelldrew first blood in the opening seconds of the 27th minute. Sophomore Jenna Horton threw the ball in to senior Frankie Ross, who worked the ball into the side of the goal box. As the goalie collapsed on the ball, she dished to Trammell who took the shot on the wide open net for her third goal of the season.

The Vikings would lead 1-0 heading in onto the half, but would break the silence 27 minutes into the second half.

Sophomore Amanda Dutra received a centering pass from classmate Brittany Allen and fired the shot past the Wolves Brittney Rigtrup for her first goal of the season. Newcomer Hannah Kimsey also registered an assist in the match.

Shortly after Portland State's second goal, freshman Eryn Brown scored her first collegiate goal. Brown received the ball five yards outside center circle and worked towards the middle of the field to the goal. Just steps outside of the box, she rifled a shot to the back of net for the Viks third and final goal.

Making her first career start in net for the Vikings, sophomore Lainey Hulsizer made five saves in her first win and shutout of her career. Western Oregon's Rachelle Kliewer tested Hulsizer up-front in the contest, one-versus-one twice in close proximity and the other from the corner of the box, forcing Hulsizer to make a stretching save.

Portland State improves to 3-3-0 this season and will head to Southern California next weekend to take on UC Riverside and San Diego.
