Boxscore

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.
- Portland State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the Big Sky Championship, but surrendered two second-half goals to Sacramento State and fell 2-1 in the Big Sky Semifinals. Sac State advances to play the winner of Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado.

PSU opened the scoring when junior Kala Renard worked up the bench sideline and sent a cross to the front of the net. A Sac State defender sent an errant clear to her left that freshman Eryn Brown collected and fired to the back left of the net over the keeper to give the Vikings the lead, 1-0, in the 13th minute.

The Vikings defense limited the number of good shots for the Hornets by walling off any header opportunities, allowing the balls to sail out of bounds. Sac State had scoring opportunities in the half but wide open shots sailed either high or wide. Both teams recorded four shots in the first half.

Senior Frankie Ross took a one-timer shot early in the second on a pass from Brown in the box. With wide open real-estate on the left side of the goal, Ross slipped a hard roller left but ball sailed three feet left of the post.

Leah Larot notched the equalizer for the Hornets with 35:32 left in the half, 1-1, slipping one past Hulsizer on the bottom-left corner. Sac State played with reckless abandon on offense as it launched a blitzkrieg offensive on the the Viking defense, closely resembling the regular-season closer Oct. 29.

Hulsizer cleared a ball after a save that went to Brown in the midfield on the 50/50 ball. Brown, in wide open space, headed the ball up field and dished the ball to Renard in front of the box. Sacramento State's Shea Roberts ran in to block the rifled shot.

Elece McBride put the Hornets ahead in the 79th minute after a barrage of succesive shots. Hulsizer made a diving save on the first, the second rebounded off the post, Hulsizer again made a diving save but the deflected shot landed to McBride.

Shortly after the goal sophomore Amanda Dutra was sent off the field after she was issued a red card in the 81st minute.

Off a free kick, Toni Carnovale attempted to rally back the offense and nearly succeeded, firing a shot towards the goal that was nearly headed in by Teal Sigler, despite playing with 10 on the field.

The Vikings final minute effort was not enough as they fell 2-1 to the Hornets, the fifth-straight semifinal exit for Portland State.

PSU closes its season 9-10-1 and will prepare for the 2011 season.
