Brown's Multi-Goal Game Leads Portland State Past Weber State, 3-0

OGDEN, Utah
- As the old saying goes, "All good things come in threes." And for the Portland State women's soccer team this season that saying has come to fruition as it picked up its third Big Sky win with a 3-0 win over Weber State. It is the sixth time this year the Vikings have won by a 3-0 score. Eryn Brown led the Viks with two goals in the match.

It didn't take long for PSU to strike first blood, as they did so in the ninth minute of play. Sophomore defender Michelle Hlasnik, who has been a staple in the Vikings backline all season, got offensive in the match, clearing a ball out of the back field and setting up Brown who took a shot from 17 yards out and onto the left post to claim a 1-0 lead.

Hlasnik's assist was her first of the season. In 2009, playing primarily in the midfield, the All-Academic Big Sky pick was second on the team in assists with four.

Portland State would take the 1-0 lead into the half and outshot WSU, 8-7 in the period. The backfield was happy to welcome Kajsa Sporseen back into the lineup, as she missed the Northern Arizona contest after suffering from symptoms of altitude sickness in Flagstaff, Ariz. (6,910-feet).

Shortly after the start of the second half, Weber State was whistled for a foul. Junior Toni Carnovale took the free kick for the Vikings and fired it towards the net from 40 yards out. The ball cleared goalkeeper Alyson Hanson on the bounce and gave PSU a 2-0 lead in the 48th minute.

Four minutes later, Brown struck again inside the goal box on a cross from sophomore Amanda Dutra, 10 yards away from the net to give the Vikings their final score of the match.

Brown registered her fourth and fifth goals of the season in the contest. She has now scored four goals in Big Sky play.

Sophomore Lainey Hulsizer earned her second-consecutive start in the contest and came up with five saves in the first 45 minutes and another four in her final 34:58, for a total of nine saves. Senior Rachel Jarvis made one save in the final 10:02 of play. The pair combined for their third team shutout of the season.

Hulsizer is now 3-3-1 between the pipes.

Portland State (7-9-1, 3-2-0 Big Sky) now has nine points in the Big Sky to tie with Sacramento State for second-place in the standings. The Viks return to Hillsboro Stadium on Sunday with the kickoff set for 1 p.m.
