Northern Arizona Defeats Portland State

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Portland State completed its road trip at Northern Arizona and the Vikings found themselves in a dogfight with the Lumberjacks. While PSU had a fair amount of shots in the match, NAU walked away with the victory, 2-0. The Lumberjacks remain undefeated in conference play.

The teams played to a 0-0 tie at the half, with Portland State leading the shot count 8-6. In the waning minutes of the first stanza, senior defender Emily Rohde fired a shot that rattled the crossbar. PSU also put four shots on goal in the half.

Making her first start in net since Sept. 19 at San Diego, sophomore Lainey Hulsizer made seven saves in the contest. Hulsizer has split time with Rachel Jarvis in net five times this season.

Nine minutes later, NAU scored its first goal of the match on a diving  header by Brandy Carr, receiving the ball on free kick. Three minutes later, Kristi Andreassen took a free kick and Jenna Samora put the ball in the net to give the Jacks a 2-0 lead.

Rohde and Amanda Dutra led the Vikings in shot on goals with two. Both teams were fairly even in shots during the contest with the Lumberjacks leading 13-11 in the contest.

Portland State falls to 6-9-1 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play, and still remains in fourth-place in the Big Sky standings for the final spot in the Big Sky Championship.

Portland State will have a short week to prepare as they play their final road contest in Big Sky play at Weber State Oct. 24 with a 1 p.m. kickoff.

MATCH NOTES:
The Vikings remain winless and have not taken a draw in Flagstaff ... NAU won last seasons match with a goal in the second half as well ... Portland State is winless in its last six matches with Northern Arizona.
