SPOKANE, Wash. — The Portland State women's golf team has played 30 individual rounds at the Kalispel Invitational the past two seasons. It took until Tuesday's third round for Caithlyn Ong to produce the Vikings' first under-par round, as Ong led the team over a difficult course at the Kalispel Golf and Country Club.
 
Ong carded a two-under par 70, recording four birdies against two bogeys in the third round. She placed tied for 28th overall for the tournament, leading the Vikings with an eight-over 224 (75-79-70).
 
Cynthia Valerie Ong had led the Vikings through the first two rounds. She finished the first day tied for 17th, but had a tough start to the third round with two triple bogeys out of her first seven holes Tuesday. Ong stabilized from there, but couldn't make up ground, finishing tied for 47th with a 13-over 229 (74-73-82).
 
Maddie Dustin posted her best round of the tournament in Tuesday's third round. She shot a four-over 76 to place tied for 64th at 234 (81-77-76) for the tournament.
 
Momo Udom (88-79-82=249) and Francesca Tomp (83-85-88=256) placed 80th and 81st, respectively.
 
The Vikings finished 13th out of 14 teams at the tournament, recording a 54-hole tournament score of 931 (313-308-310). Boise State won the tournament with a three-under 861 (292-283-286). The Broncos finished 14 strokes ahead of second-place Grand Canyon, which finished 11-over par at 875 (298-292-285).
 
Boise State's Leia Chung won the medalist honors at the tournament, finishing four-under par at 212 (73-70-69).
 
The Kalispel Invitational marked the halfway point of the Vikings' fall season. They'll continue next week at the Sun Mountain Intercollegiate, Sept. 28-29, in Missoula, Mont.
