PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland State head women's tennis coach
Mike Mucci has announced the addition of Sofiia Ziukyna and Nikhitha Suresh, completing the Vikings' 2026 signing class.
Both will join the Vikings in fall 2026 as incoming freshmen. Ziukyna hails from Kharkiv, Ukraine, while Suresh is a local product from Portland, currently in her senior season at Westview.
"I'm super excited to add both Nikitha and Sofiia to our team next year," Mucci said. "Both of them have a ton of talent and potential, but they are top-notch human beings as well. I'm grateful to add both of them to the culture we already have here."
Suresh played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Sunset before finishing out her high school career at Westview. Competing at the No. 1 singles spot for both schools, she placed third in singles at the OSAA 6A State Championships in both 2024 and 2025. Suresh is currently ranked No. 2 in Oregon and No. 8 in the Pacific Northwest for the class of 2026, and is a two-time PNW Sectional doubles finalist.
"It's always great to have local talent join your program and Nikitha is both a great person and a great player whose best tennis is ahead of her." Mucci said. "Being ranked number 2 in Oregon is a huge accomplishment and I'm really motivated to get to work with her in the Fall."
Ziukyna will bring an impressive international résumé to the Vikings' 2026-27 roster. She's recorded multiple semifinal and finalist finishes on the Tennis Europe Junior Tour across U14 and U16 competition, including singles semifinal appearances at the SG Junior Cup (U14), Siauliai Open (U16) and Empire Cup (U16). She has also reached doubles finals at the Aizkraukle Cup and PEUGEOT Pepas Cup.
"We're very lucky to have found a player of Sofiia's caliber when we did," Mucci said. "Not only does she have great international experience and a great foundation, she also can grow into an extremely high-level player in the Big Sky in the next few years."
Suresh and Ziukyna will join Mucci in his second season leading the Vikings and add to a young, talented roster that currently features just one upperclassman for the 2025-26 season.
