Vikings Close Home Schedule Against Eastern Washington Saturday

PORTLAND, Ore. – Coming off a key conference victory last weekend, the Portland State women's tennis team will look to carry that momentum into its final home match of the season Saturday, hosting Eastern Washington at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center (10:00 a.m.).

The match opens the final month of the Vikings' regular-season schedule, with four matches remaining—all critical as Portland State pushes for a spot in the Big Sky Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. (April 23-25). The top six teams in the conference standings advance to the tournament. Both the Vikings (6-4) and Eagles (8-7) currently sit inside that top six entering the weekend, each holding a 2-2 mark in Big Sky play.

The Vikings earned a key 4-3 win in its last outing, edging second-place Idaho at home last Sunday (March 29). The Vikings secured the doubles point and clinched the match behind singles victories from Scarlett Perkins (No. 1), Marta Giglio (No. 2) and Hana Abdelhamid (No. 4).

Giglio leads the Vikings with a 9-2 singles record in her first season at PSU. Four of her wins have come at line two, where she holds a 3-1 record against conference opponents, with all three wins coming in straight sets. Entering the final stretch of the regular season with an .818 win percentage, Giglio is on pace to break the program's single-season win percentage record of .789 (15-4), set by Tracy Dong in 2015.

The Vikings are 4-2 at home this season and will look for their fourth win over the Eagles in the last five years. Portland State dropped last year's meeting, 5-2, on the road, snapping a three-match win streak in the series.

The Eagles earned 4-3 wins over Montana State and Montana to open their conference schedule but have since lost three straight, dropping duals to Sacramento State, Washington State and Northern Arizona.
