FARMINGTON, Utah – Portland State women's tennis player Marta Giglio earned her first career Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week honor after a 4-0 weekend against Lewis-Clark State College and the University of Portland.
Giglio picked up two wins at No. 1 doubles alongside Hana Abdelhamid. The duo defeated LCSC's Lulu Monnayoo and Naiara Montero, 6-2, to help the Vikings secure the opening point on Friday. On Sunday, Giglio and Abdelhamid notched the Vikings' only doubles win against the Pilots, beating Naiara Montero and Alaia Rubo Perez, 6-4.
Giglio was equally dominant in singles action, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win over LCSC's Montero at the No. 3 spot to open the weekend. She followed with another strong outing on Sunday, defeating Portland's Dariya Radulova, 6-2, 6-4, at line two.
The sophomore from Italy, who transferred to Portland State ahead of this season after spending a year at Buffalo, holds a combined 12-2 record in singles and doubles this year, including a 6-1 mark in each during non-conference play.
