Vikings Complete First Day Of Fresno State Spring Classic

Fresno, CA – Tenth-ranked Pepperdine flexed its muscles on the first day of the Fresno State Spring Classic, jumping out to a 24-stroke lead after two rounds of play. The Waves posted 290-282=572, while second-place Cal Poly shot 300-296=596. Portland State is currently in 10th place with rounds of 315-310=625.
 
Yingzhi Zhu of Pepperdine holds in the individual lead with a four-under par 73-67=140 at the Fort Washington Golf and Country Club. Three players are just one stroke behind.
 
PSU junior Cynthia Valerie Ong is the top Viking through rounds. Ong shot 78-73=151 and is in 17th place among 70 golfers. Her sister, freshman Caithlyn Ong, is in 40th place at 79-77=156.
 
Senior Bayler Brundage shot 80-78=158 over two rounds and is in 49th place.
 
Senior Payten Shimizu and sophomore Maddie Dustin each shot 164 and are tied for 62nd.
 
The Vikings are 10th among 11 teams. They trail Big Sky Conference foe Weber State (615) and lead Idaho State (653).
