Boulder City, NV – Portland State Golf put together the best back-to-back rounds by the program in eight years, posting scores of 294-293=587 on the first day of the Jackrabbits Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Vikings are currently in fourth place and beating four teams ranked ahead of them nationally.

PSU had good rounds from all six golfers participating in the tournament, but none better than sophomore
Maddie Dustin, who is tied for eighth place, with a one-over par 72-73=145.

UNLV is leading the Jackrabbits Invitational, hosted by South Dakota State, with an eight-under par 285-283=568. Morehead State is in second place at 577, followed by South Dakota State at 579.Â

There is a three-way tie for first place on the individual leaderboard among Foong Zi Yu of UNLV (70-69=139), Amelia Greenlee of Morehead State (69-70=139) and Pin Hsi Chen of UNLV (71-68=139).

Portland State's opening-round 294 tied for the best single round of the season by the Vikings. A few hours later, the Vikings followed that up with a five-over par 293 for a new best round of the year, and best overall round in three seasons. The last time the Vikings had back-to-back rounds better than 294-293 came in the final two rounds of the 2018 Big Sky Conference Championship (294-289). The Vikings finished third in the Big Sky that season.

Dustin matched her season-low of 72 in the opening round. It was the third time this season she has shot even-par, and it had her in the top 10 after the first round of play. She backed it up with a 73 in round two.

Meanwhile,
Caithlyn Ong's opening-round 74 was her best score of the season. Then, the Viking freshman followed it up with an even-par 72 in the second round for a new best. She had a team-high seven birdies over 36 holes. Ong is tied for 12th overall at 146.Â

Her sister, junior
Cynthia Valerie Ong, is tied for 18th place among the 63 golfers competing. The elder Ong also had the best round of the day by a Viking with 77-71=148. The one-under par, second-round score tied her personal best in three seasons at PSU.

Payten Shimizu is tied for 29th place with 73-77=150. Freshman
Francesca Tomp opened with a 74 in her first competition of the spring and followed it up with 77 for 151 total and tie for 31st. Senior
Bayler Brundage is 40th with 75-79=154.Â
