PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State women's tennis team will open Big Sky Conference action this weekend, hosting Montana State on Sunday, March 15 (3:00 p.m.) and Montana on Monday, March 16 (10:00 a.m.) at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
The Vikings carry a 4-3 overall record into their conference slate, aiming to secure a spot in their second straight Big Sky Tournament at the end of the regular season.
Portland State compiled a 27-15 singles record and a 15-5 doubles mark as a team during non-conference play. Marta Giglio leads the way with a 6-1 record in both singles and doubles. The sophomore recently earned her first career Big Sky Player of the Week honor after a 4-0 weekend against Lewis-Clark State College and Portland. Fellow sophomores Kasumi Hirayama and Hana Abdelhamid each bring five singles wins into the weekend, while every Viking has recorded at least four doubles victories ahead of Big Sky action.Â
Both the Griz and Bobcats are seeking their first conference wins of the season, entering the weekend at 0-3 in Big Sky play ahead of their matches with the Vikings. Portland State played both schools on the road last season, dropping its match to MSU 7-0 before defeating Montana 6-1.
