OPENING TIP
The final game of the Big Sky Conference regular season and still a lot to decide; that is where the Portland State Vikings, the Weber State Wildcats and several other teams find themselves when the ball goes up on Monday evening.
    Â
The Vikings (18-10, 12-5) clinched a share of the Big Sky Conference title more than a week ago, but have lost three straight games, and have yet to nail down the number-one seed in the Big Sky Conference Tournament, Mar. 7-11, in Boise. Why? Because Montana State and Eastern Washington have been finishing fast and crawled to within one game of the Vikings (both 11-6) with one to play. PSU needs a win on Monday against Weber State in the season finale and/or losses by MSU and EWU to be assured the top seed. As it stands, all three teams are in contention for the one-, two- and three-seeds. Being in the top two is particularly beneficial as it assures a quarterfinal round game against a team seeded somewhere between seven and 10. And, it allows a day off between the quarterfinal and semifinal game days.
    Â
Meanwhile, the Vikings' Monday opponent, Weber State, is tied for fourth place with Montana at 10-7. The Wildcats are vying for a chance to finish fourth, or possibly even third or second if they can win, get some help, and win potential tie-breakers in the standings.
    Â
So, one game left, and still all a bit confusing.
    Â
The easiest way to end the confusion for Portland State is to win on Monday against Weber State and capture the outright Big Sky Championship and number-one seed.
    Â
Make no mistake, Portland State has had an outstanding season - one of the finest in its Big Sky history - and for only the third time in 30 years can claim a Big Sky Championship. Inexplicably, a three-game losing streak has made the standings tighter than they would have liked.
    Â
The Vikings take a 10-3 home record into Monday's Senior Night contest with the Wildcats. PSU beat Weber State in the conference-opener on Jan. 1, 95-90 in overtime, in Ogden.
    Â
Weber State (16-14, 10-7) has won three in a row and five of its last six to rise in the standings. The Wildcats are 5-9 in road games, 4-4 in Big Sky road games.
    Â
Prior to the Monday night game, PSU will honor seven seniors on its roster playing in their final home game:
Jaylin Henderson,
Terri Miller Jr.,
Tre-Vaughn Minott,
Isaiah Williams,
Brycen Long,
Mozae Downing-Rivers and
Samuel Stewart IV.
    Â
The big finish to the 2025-26 regular season takes place at Viking Pavilion. Tip-off is 7 p.m. and the game can be seen on ESPN+. Live statistics can be found at www.GoViks.com.
