Vikings Finish Spring Opener In Arizona In 12th Place

Litchfield, AZ – UTEP led start to finish as it captured the Bowling Green Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at the Wigwam Golf Resort Blue Course. The Miners posted 282-286-295=863 over three rounds to win the event. Portland State placed 12th among 15 teams in the tournament finishing with scores of 310-306-312=928.
 
Amelia Fridlund of UTEP won the individual title with a three-under par 70-71-69=210. She beat teammate Nichapas Thawinwan and Kamri Gabel of UT-Arlington by a single stroke as they both came in at two-under par 211.
 
Junior Cynthia Valerie Ong was the top Viking finisher tying for 37th among 84 golfers. Ong carded scores of 78-74-75=227 during the two-day event.
 
Senior Payten Shimizu tied for 57th with 80-76-78=234. She was a stroke ahead of sophomore Maddie Dustin, who posted 78-78-79=235.
 
Bayler Brundage, also a senior, was 67th at 74-81-82=237. Junior Momo Udom tied for 69th with 81-78-80=239.
 
The Vikings were one of three Big Sky Conference schools competing in the event. PSU beat Montana (938) and came in behind Idaho (904).
