TACOMA, Wash. – The Portland State women's tennis team turned in a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, sweeping Puget Sound 7-0 at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.
The Vikings (1-1) controlled the match from start to finish, earning their first win of the 2026 season and the first victory of head coach Mike Mucci's tenure at Portland State.
Portland State opened the day by taking all three doubles matches from the Loggers (0-0), securing the opening point. Marta Giglio and Hana Abdelhamid cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, followed by a 6-1 victory from Scarlett Perkins and Nene Uemura at the top spot. Anjola Ige and Kasumi Hirayama completed the sweep with a 6-2 win on court three.
The Vikings carried that momentum into singles play, rolling to six straight-set victories. Uemura, Hirayama and Giglio did not drop a set on courts two, three and four, respectively. Perkins followed with a win at No. 1 singles over Kaylee Yamada to earn her first career victory at line one. Ige closed out the afternoon on court six, defeating Meredith Friess 6-2, 6-2 for her first collegiate singles win.
The Vikings will return to action next weekend when they host Linfield on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center (10:00 am).
