Week two of Portland State's four-week run through its Pacific Northwest fall golf schedule has the Vikings traveling to Spokane for the Kalispel Invitational hosted by Eastern Washington next Monday and Tuesday.
 
PSU wrapped its season-opener last Tuesday in Bozeman, MT, placing ninth at the Yellowstone Intercollegiate. It was a positive start for the Vikings who shot scores of 299-304-301 over three rounds. The 301.3 scoring average shows a six-shot per round improvement over last year's team scoring average and Head Coach Bill Winter hopes they can maintain that and go even lower.
 
Notable among the Vikings' performance was that of newcomer Maddie Dustin, a transfer from Hawai'i but originally from Salem, OR. Dustin came out with opening rounds of 72-72, then finished with 77 for a team-leading, five-over par 221 total.
 
Junior Cynthia Valerie Ong came in one stroke behind Dustin at 72-77-73=222.
 
No doubt those two will anchor the Vikings next week when they compete in the 54-hole event at Kalispel Golf and Country Club. Once again, five other Big Sky Conference schools will be in attendance among 14 teams competing.
 
PSU's PNW fall includes the Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational in Tacoma on Sept. 29-30 and the Sun Mountain Intercollegiate in Missoula on Oct. 6-7.
