Dieumerci Migani Wins Long Jump at OSU High Performance Meet to Kick Off Month of May

RESULTS

CORVALLIS, Ore. —
Dieumerci Migani finds a new level in May.

Last May, he set school records in the triple jump and 100 meters at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships while scoring more points at the conference meet than any other PSU men's athlete since 2016.

Friday, in the Vikings' first meet of the month, Migani won the long jump at the OSU High Performance Meet with a personal best of 24-04.50 (7.43m) on his final attempt of the day. The personal best moved Migani up to fourth all-time in the long jump at Portland State. He now ranks in the top five all-time in six different individual events between indoor and outdoor track.

Add in that Thursday, May 1, was Migani's birthday, and it's clear that May is Migani's month.

He wasn't the only victor for the Vikings Friday at OSU's Whyte Track and Field Center, though.

Emma Stolte continued her hot streak in the women's 1,500 meters, winning her third race out of four at the distance this season. Stolte won her heat in 4:33.21, taking the lead with 600 meters to go before holding off strong challenges from Portland's Teresa Perez and Jane Roloff over the bell lap. Stolte's time represents her second-best mark ever in the 1,500 meters, trailing only her personal best of 4:31.56 from the John Knight Twilight earlier this season.

Sienna Rosario also posted a heat win for the Vikings in the women's 200 meters. Rosario won in a personal best of 25.24 seconds, half a second better than her previous best, which came at the John Knight Twilight three weeks ago. Rosario moved up to seventh in the freshman record book with the time.

Ashley Peterson also set a personal best in the women's 200 meters with her finish in 25.57 seconds. She bettered her old mark by over eight-tenths of a second.

All four Vikings in the men's 200 meters set either personal or seasonal bests. Dillon Brost led the foursome with a finish in 22.47 seconds, putting him just two-hundredths of a second outside of the freshman top 10 in the event. Tommie Olubisi followed in 22.50 seconds, setting a seasonal best by three-tenths of a second. Phoenix Bakkum and Braden Latscha were separated by only thousandths of a second as they each finished in 22.91 seconds to set personal bests.

Ania Kapustka bettered her top 10 mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, though stayed at sixth in the all-time rankings. Kapustka shaved 18 seconds off her debut time in the event while placing ninth in 10:49.74. The improvement comes only three weeks after her first-ever attempt at the steeplechase, which came at the John Knight Twilight on April 11.

In the field, Noah Meucci cracked 160 feet in the hammer for the third time this season, placing fifth with a mark of 163-02 (49.75m).

Ty Hawkins set a personal best in the men's long jump while competing alongside Migani. He jumped 21-03.25 (6.48m) on his second attempt of the day, adding two inches to a personal best from way back in 2019.

The Vikings will continue at the OSU High Performance Meet Saturday. Field events will begin at noon, approximately, with the men's javelin. Track events start with the men's 4x100-meter relay at 2:05 p.m.

Migani is slated to anchor the relay for the Vikings. And with it occurring in May, who knows what he might have in store.
