Vikings Men's Tennis Signs Three for 2025-26 Season

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland State head men's tennis coach Vetu Mam has announced the signing of three student-athletes for the 2025-26 season. Freshmen Aarjun Pandit and Ignacio Ruiz, along with transfer Hampus Hagglund, will join the Vikings this fall.

"I'm excited about this group," Mam said. "It's a mix of experience and young energy. The goal was to build around the young guys I already have who've shown a lot of heart. We have a lot of talent and character coming in this fall."

The incoming class adds to an already diverse Viking roster, with all three student-athletes hailing from outside the United States and representing three different continents. Pandit is from Gurgaon, Haryana, India; Ruiz comes from Veracruz, Mexico; and Hagglund, a transfer from Division II University of Mount Olive, is a native of Stockholm, Sweden.

Pandit, set to graduate from Ajanta Public School this spring, is a six-time National Series tournament winner and represented India in the Junior Davis Cup in 2023. He achieved a career-high No. 1 national ranking in the U16 division by the All India Tennis Association (AITA), and has won two J60 ITF singles titles and four doubles titles, along with three runner-up finishes in J100 doubles and a semifinal appearance in J200 doubles.

Fellow freshman Ruiz has also had a successful junior career, representing Mexico in the Junior Davis Cup for two years. He has won two ITF J30 titles and will graduate from Instituto Rougier this spring before arriving in the Rose City.

Hagglund will complete his sophomore year at Mount Olive this spring before arriving in Portland as a junior. Before his time in North Carolina, the Sweden native was an ITF J30 doubles finalist and reached the doubles semifinals at the U18 Swedish Championship in 2022. He also claimed a U16 regional singles title in Stockholm in 2020. While with the Trojans, Hagglund recorded two doubles wins and 11 singles victories, going 8-9 in 2025 while playing primarily at line five. Notably, he posted an impressive 7-1 record against conference opponents this past season.

The trio will join Mam, entering his seventh season at the helm, and three returning players for the 2025-26 campaign.
