Beukers and Hirayama Earn All-Big Sky Honorable Mention Doubles Nod

FARMINGTON, Utah – Portland State women's tennis players Nika Beukers and Kasumi Hirayama received Honorable Mention recognition on the All-Big Sky team, as announced by the conference office earlier this afternoon.

The all-conference teams were selected by the league's head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes. To earn Honorable Mention status, a duo needed to receive at least three votes.

After teaming up midway through the season at the No. 1 doubles position, the freshman/senior tandem quickly found their rhythm, securing three wins against conference opponents. They closed out the regular season on a three-match winning streak, with victories over Chaminade (3/29), Sacramento State (4/7), and Eastern Washington (4/13). During that stretch, they outscored their opponents 18-4 and finished the regular season with a 4-2 record, with their only losses coming against Montana State and conference champion Northern Arizona.

Although the Vikings' four-year run of first-team doubles honors ended today, Beukers and Hirayama's recognition extended a different streak. Portland State has now placed at least one doubles team on the All-Big Sky doubles list every season since 2021, extending the streak to five consecutive years. Beukers and Hirayama are the third Viking duo to land Honorable Mention doubles honors.

For Beukers, a senior captain and decorated doubles specialist, today's recognition adds to an already distinguished career. She becomes just the second player in program history to earn three all-conference doubles honors, having previously received first-team recognition in 2022 (with Capu Sanoner) and 2024 (with Momo Yoshimura). Beukers boasts a career doubles record of 44-22 (.667), including a dominant 23-5 mark against Big Sky opponents, setting a program record for career Big Sky doubles wins earlier this season.

Beukers, Hirayama, and the Vikings will open their Big Sky Tournament run tomorrow, Thursday, April 24, against No. 3 seed Idaho at the Phoenix Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 8 a.m. PT.
