Vikings Shoot 303 In Final Round Of Eagles Invitational

Worley, ID – With four rounds in the 70s, Portland State turned in its best score of the fall so far, posting a team total of 303 in the final round of the Eagles Invitational at Circling Raven Golf Club. The Vikings completed the 36-hole tournament with a 317-303=620 score to place 12th.

CSUN held on to take the team title with a one-under par 286-289=575 total in the two-day event. North Dakota State placed second with 578 and Seattle was third with 584.

Viking senior Tannica Porter had matching 74s in her two rounds at the Eagles Invitational. She shot 148 overall and tied for 22nd place among 79 golfers competing.

Both juniors, Payten Shimizu and Bayler Brundage, greatly improved their second-round scores with 75s. Shimizu tied for 49th with 80-75=155. Brundage came in with 82-75=157 and tied for 54th.

Also improving from the first round was sophomore Momo Udom. She posted 81-79=160 and tied for 65th.

Montana State's Lauren Greeny had the round of the tournament with a six-under par 66 on Monday. She ended up at 72-66=138 and tied Ariya Soldwisch of CSUN (69-69=138) for medalist honors.
TAP-INS
  • Tannica Porter's 148 total ties for 10th-best score by a Viking in a 36-hole event in PSU history.
  • The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after an illegal pin placement wiped out the opening round on Sunday morning.
  • Portland State's next tournament is the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, hosted by Seattle, in Tacoma, WA on Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The Vikings will host their own Portland State Invitational on Oct. 14-15 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club.
  • The Vikings' team total of 303 was particularly good as they were down a player and competing with just four. Cynthia Valerie Ong missed the tournament with a minor back injury while newcomer Avery Kageyama was not yet ready to compete. Both players should be available to play at next week's Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational.
