Momoko Yoshimura Tabbed Big Sky Player of the Week

FARMINGTON, Utah – Portland State women's tennis player Momoko Yoshimura was named the Co-Big Sky's Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday.

The fifth-year senior transfer from the University of Louisiana went 2-0 on Saturday, leading the Vikings to a 4-3 conference-opening win over Montana State. Yoshimura opened the day with a convincing win at No. 2 doubles before notching a comeback victory at No. 4 singles.

Yoshimura and Nika Beukers secured a 6-2 victory over Angel Bean and Jazmin Lerman at No. 2 doubles to help clinch the opening point for Portland State. In singles play, Yoshimura lost the opening set to Bean but rallied back to secure a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory. The singles win was crucial to the Vikings' victory as it set the stage for teammate Maddie Egan to seal the match.

Yoshimura heads into the second weekend of conference action with a 3-3 singles record and 3-0 doubles mark. This is the first Big Sky weekly honor of her career and the first of the season for the Vikings.
