Vikings Fall to Utah Tech in Road Opener

ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Portland State women's soccer team dropped its first road match of the season on Sunday, 1-0 to Utah Tech at Greater Zion Stadium in St. George, Utah.

Sunday's match was the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The loss moved the Vikings to 1-5-0, while the Trailblazers improved to 3-4-1.

Portland State was in control for much of the first half, out-shooting the Trailblazers 9-6 in the opening 45 minutes. Three of those shots came in the final ten minutes of the half. The match remained scoreless until the 66th minute. Following a corner kick and back-to-back missed shots, Lucy Fox put Utah Tech on the board with the only goal of the afternoon.

The Vikings fired two shots and a pair of corner kicks down the stretch but couldn't capitalize as the Trailblazers secured the 1-0 victory.

Portland State ended with 11 shots. Camilla Contreras Bran, Abi Hoffman and Lucy Quinn tallied two shots each. Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Cunningham played the full 90 minutes, recording five saves.

The Vikings will return to action on Friday, Sept. 15 at UC Riverside (7 p.m.).
