Scottsdale, AZ – Sacramento State shot a sizzling six-under par 282 as a team on a hot day at Talking Stick Golf Club in the first round of the Big Sky Championship. It was the lowest first-round score in tournament history and second-lowest overall. Portland State is currently in ninth place at 310 with two rounds to play.

Temperatures reached 90 but the Hornets loved the heat as three players shot under-par scores. Sac State's Caitlin Maurice is tied for the lead with Jaelin Ishikawa of Eastern Washington and Lizzie Neale of Northern Arizona. All three players shot three-under par 69 in the opening round.

The Hornets have an eight-shot lead over Weber State and Montana State, who both came in with 290 and are tied for second.

Portland State was led by junior
Mariana Garcia Rosette who posted a three-over 75 in the first round. She made three birdies to lead the team and is tied for 24
th overall.

Payten Shimizu contributed to the team score with a 77. The freshman had a team-high 12 pars and one birdie in her round. Her 12 pars rank seventh among all players and she is tied for 32
nd among 50 golfers.

Tya Seth, who earned third team All-Big Sky Conference honors last week, shot a 78 and is tied for 35
th.
